Young & dynamic Nikita Patil, 26 year girl from a small hamlet of Jafarwadi (Belagavi) is recently in news. When most of the youngsters of her age are leaving the village and looking towards cities for their livelihood,   Nikita stands strong, determined and is a successful farmer & a role model to other youngsters. Nikita dreamt of becoming a Chartered Accountant. Due to the sudden death of her father, to shoulder the responsibility of the family she took to farming & at a very young age she has been a successful farmer.

She has used her skill, knowledge and did the scientific farming and is earning in Lakhs by cultivating seasonal crop like Chillies

Nikita, B.Com, graduated & a bright student of Bhaurao Kakatkar College in Belagavi and was pursuing a CA course with aspirations of working in a company in Bangalore or Pune. Sudden death of her father created a vacuum in the family.  Nikita took a bold decision to quit her studies and take up farming the way she worked in farming has surprised villagers.

She left her education behind and became a full-time farmer, planting pepper plants on one acre of her father’s four-acre farm and installing drip irrigation during the process.

In the first harvesting season, Nikita reaped over 4 tons of chillies, selling them for 500 rupees per 10 kg. This resulted in a profit of lakhs of rupees, surprised by her commitment to farming, the family members appreciate her decision to pursue farming was absolutely correct. .

She is also giving employment to 10-15 women who work in her field to harvest chillies. The chillies are harvested every 8-10 days. The chillies are smartly packed in 10 kg bags and are dispatched to Goa and Kolhapur.

Nikita’s is thankful to her brother Abhishek and her uncle Tanaji who extends scientific advice to usher better yield.  

The inspiring story of Nikita is worth replicating by many youngsters who look at cities for a paltry salary. We wish Nikita & family all the best in their farming journey.
